Lateral Habenula Regulates Cardiovascular Autonomic Responses via the Serotonergic System in Rats

چکیده

The lateral habenula (LHb) plays essential roles in behavioral responses to stressful events. Stress is tightly linked autonomic such as cardiovascular responses, yet how the LHb regulates these not well understood. To address this issue, we electrically stimulated rats, measured its effects on heart rate (HR) and mean arterial pressure (MAP), investigated neural circuits that mediate LHb-induced via nervous system. We observed stimulation of induced bradycardia pressor whereas adjacent areas changed neither HR nor MAP. Bilateral vagotomy administration a muscarinic receptor antagonist suppressed effect but MAP, β-adrenoceptor partly attenuated MAP HR. Thus, were likely caused by activations cardiac parasympathetic nerves sympathetic nerves, respectively. Furthermore, non-selective 5-HT significantly both A 2 also effects. low dose 1A enhanced effects, high drug them. 1B 1D antagonists 7 did affect Taken together, our findings suggest at least through serotonergic system, particularly receptors.

Autonomic cardiovascular responses to heme oxygenase inhibition in conscious rats.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is produced in the course of heme degradation from biliverdin by heme oxygenase (HO) in various tissues, including the central nervous system. Recent studies suggest the inhibition of HO activity increases arterial pressure mediated by the autonomic nervous system. The present study was designed to investigate the autonomic regulation of cardiovascular responses to inhibiti...

Role of the Nitrergic System of the Cuneiform Nucleus in Cardiovascular Responses in Urethane-Anesthetized Male Rats

Background: The presence of nitric oxide (NO) in the cuneiform nucleus (CnF) has been previously shown. In this study, NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) (an inhibitor of NO synthase), L-arginine (L-Arg) (a precursor of NO), and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) (a donor of NO) were microinjected into the CnF and cardiovascular responses were investigated. Methods: Seventy male rats were divide...

Nicotine regulates activity of lateral habenula neurons via presynaptic and postsynaptic mechanisms

There is much interest in brain regions that drive nicotine intake in smokers. Interestingly, both the rewarding and aversive effects of nicotine are probably critical for sustaining nicotine addiction. The medial and lateral habenular (LHb) nuclei play important roles in processing aversion, and recent work has focused on the critical involvement of the LHb in encoding and responding to aversi...

Involvement of the lateral habenula in the regulation of generalized anxiety- and panic-related defensive responses in rats.

Recently obtained evidence points to the involvement of the lateral habenular nuclei (LHb) in the mediation of coping defensive responses to threatening/stressful stimuli. Nevertheless, the role of this brain area in the regulation of defensive responses that have been associated with specific subtypes of anxiety disorders recognized in clinical settings is presently unknown. To address this qu...

Lateral habenula in the pathophysiology of depression

Depression is a devastating disorder with a combination of diverse symptoms such as low self-esteem, lack of motivation, anhedonia, loss of appetite, low energy, and discomfort without a clear cause. Depression has been suggested to be the result of maladaptive changes in specific brain circuits. Recently, the lateral habenula (LHb) has emerged as a key brain region in the pathophysiology of de...
